US security chief strives to expel all illegal immigrants

Forsees "Significant and Measurable Progress in less than a year"

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said his department aims without exception to expel all those who enter the United States illegally.

"Our goal at DHS (Homeland Security) is to completely eliminate the 'catch and release' enforcement problem, and return every single illegal entrant, no exceptions.

Today, a non-Mexican illegal immigrant caught trying to enter the United States across the southwest border has an 80 percent chance of being released immediately because we lack the holding facilities," he added.

"Through a comprehensive approach, we are moving to end this 'catch and release' style of border enforcement by reengineering our detention and removal process."
Chertoff's remarks

I am DEFINITELY with you on this (security fence) one! I have been saying this for years now.

Here is a very relevant snippet from an article I wrote in July ( http://rightingamerica.blogspot.com/2005/07/al-qaieda-nukes-in-america.html ) on my own blog:

----

Although no one wants to hear it, we need to erect a wall -- make that two walls. No, make it an all out, 24/7 monitered DMZ, with concertina wire, cameras, sensors and border-patrol stations set about every 10 miles. What the hell, get satellite imagery. Allow border crossings every 50 miles or so, with strict procedures and state-of-the-art computers with interpole and federal database access located at those stations. This will force the Al Qaieda (and some other determined illegals) to find other means of crossing....like say Canada (where we should put a second DMZ separating them from us) or entering through our ports, at which we should ALSO radically improve and modernize our screening techniques.

The "Minutemen" want to get involved? LET THEM....in fact, start PAYING THEM for monitoring the walls and the crossings.

Within our borders, we need to SEEK OUT gangs like MS-13 and deport them or, if they have committed crimes, jail them. If they have committed terrorism, send them to GITMO.

Do we need another wake up call to act NOW? Terrorism is the enemy, and Iraq might be the front - but there is still MUCH to do here at home.

-----------

GREAT job, by the way! Keep up the good work!!!

For the "extra" tax dollars that we spend supporting illegal immigrants, I'm sure we see a return somehow from the sub-minimun wage labor they provide for us. They do a lot of work for construction companies, restraunts, ... and does any one go to Walmart? (http://money.cnn.com/2003/10/23/news/
companies/walmart_worker_arrests/?CNN=yes)
If there are SO many Mexicans here, they must be subsisting somehow. Since most Mexicans are terrified of any kind of federal officer (always on the lookout for "la migra"), I doubt they're applying for welfare en masse. Sure, they take up American resources, but it's not like they aren't giving anything back.

Maybe they are taking jobs, but can they join unions? Not likely. Unions are (in theory, at least) supposed to minimize the replacability of American workers.

Sure most of them aren't trying to assimilate, but thats not unusual amoung immigrants. They aren't here for our culture, they are looking for economic oppurtunity. A lot are planning on "making it" here of money here and returning to their homeland better-off (si dios quiere). Of course, most do not return.

The other benefits of a fence aside, I think it is silly to try to even suppose that it would keep billionaire terrorist organizations from entering. The 9/11 attackers had visas, and twice as many Middle-Easterners enter from Canada than from Mexico. Do you think any terrorist group worth their salt would waste their time trying to cross the Mexican border, when there are cheaper, easier, and surer ways to do so?

The fact that some Middle-Easterners were caught at the Mexican border doesn't mean that THEY are terrorists. If your neighbor was from Jordan, or Muslim, would you suspect something without knowing anything else about them? That, by definition, is prejudice. Perhaps if we Americans tried to understand Middle-easterners and Muslims a little better (because the majority do not condone terrorism), we would have less problems.

I am just a highschooler in Tennessee, but even I know, and have known for quite some time that the we (the U.S.) needs secure borders. I have always supported putting up a border defense system. Me and my friends talk about it all the time. When I get older if a fence is being built, I will, I give my promise to this country that if I can I will help in any way that I can. It makes me sick to here of how many illegal people we have in this country. When I get old enough I DO NOT WANT to have to PAY FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.

Kat Dillion- You, Clinton, and all the other ignorant people who are against this, not that I have anything against some of you, can buy yourself- no I will pay for you- a one way ticket to Syria!

Syria? Awesome, I've always wanted to see Damascus. All of the students who have gone there at my school on a study abroad loved it.

I am a first generation american who's father is a LEGAL Mexican immigrant and came to this country to do sceintific research and get an education. He stayed here and became a citizen and raised his kids as AMERICANS. I STRONGLY SUPPORT a FENCE!! This is NOT a racial issue - this is an issue of how long the US can sustain taking care of other countries problem and non-contributing citizens (not long) - in addition to the terrorist threat. Yes we DO need to do more against companies that hire illegals, but we also need to scale back our welfare program, because the jobs that the illegals take and are supposedly not jobs that Americans will take, WILL be taken by Americans if our welfare was not so rich.

Everyone in the world who hates us and bad mouths this country still wants to come here for the opportunities that have been built over the last two centuries by hard working people of all races - we need to limit legal immigration to people who will maintain our way of life and be law abiding contributing citizens.

Bingo my friends!! I am a proud ex-illegal alien who came here to get an education and who eventually became a U.S. naturalized citizen. I am proud to say that the United States gave me the opportunity to become a contributor to the "American" economy; therefore, friends I am oppose to the construction of a state of the art fence to protect our borders from illegal entry. Let us not forget that because of this illegal aliens and the many immigrants who have come to the U.S. in the past decades our economy has grown stronger. Fight terrorism and let the workers continue building a much stronger United States. Viva Los Estados Unidos y los demas Paises Hermanos!

En hora buena.

To the "you can't round-up 12 million people" crowd: Continued/consistent interior enforcement targeting cheating employers, combined with credible, strategically placed barriers would significantly reduce the level of illegal aliens inside the US. Many would walk back home.

Also, since the Mexican Federal Government hired a US public relations firm to "condition" US citizens to the illegal invasion, I suggest the following:

- Use similar public relations methods to encourage the Mexican people residing in Mexico to express their discontent with their government and explore options to the present Mexican narco-oligarchy;

- Contribute to organizations within Mexico (i.e., Zappatista movement) who seek political change for the Mexican people;

- Distribute flyers to illegal aliens within the US to encourage them to fight for economic change within their own country, Mexico.

- On a grass-roots level, US citizens should obtain literature that offers alternatives to the present Mexican oligarchy and send (mail or e-mail) this information to people within Mexico. Use your immagination...Mexico sends the US drugs, let's send their people ideas! This is all perfectly legal.

Believe me, the quickest way to get the US Government to vigorously pursue effective security at the border would be political instability within Mexico!

Let's send Mexico a message!

Viva Zappata, Viva Villa, etc!!!!!!!!
